Mommy and Me

Nolan had a flip book he had made. He brought it in to show me. It was a story about a bee and how he stung a spider. He loved the story so much he wanted to make a diorama of a scene from the book so that’s what he and his mom, Roanna were going to do.
I think Roanna had a bit more fun with the the diorama and Nolan had a bit more fun with his flip book and showing everyone how to draw a bee. At the end of their visit they had a moving diorama of their hero bee.
Love it!

Happy Nature

We started off this week with a happy sign from Mother Nature. She teaches me daily the art of seeing in the unseen, the artful nature of things. What a marvelous order exists in twigs and branches and other things she shares.

Weekly Wow!

Madison and her Dad came into the studio yesterday with a plan. She had a bag of felt scraps in hand and wanted to make a blanket. The two of them sat at a table with hot glue ready as they figured through Madison’s vision of what the blanket would be. They worked and worked until her vision was made, a story quilt about a day with a dad and his daughter.
The blanket is a keepsake and most definitely wow worthy. As dad said when they packet up to leave, “this piece is going on the wall at home”.

Material of the Week 3/24-3/30

These cardboard cut-outs can be laced together to create sculptures or structures-you choose.
Of course they can also be cut or glues or taped up too. What they become is entirely up to you.

Mother Nature’s Art

Supreme artist Mother Nature strikes my fancy every time.
Just a walk down the street she caught my eye with her lively painted flowers. The oranges and yellows so vibrant I couldn’t help but be one of the people you see on the side of the road capturing a moment on their phone.
I love the way nature, like art calls your attention, look! Do I make you feel, do I call on your memories, do I bring you into the moment you’re in?
Yes Mother Nature, Yes Art, you do.

Spring Fling!

Both Kayla and kate got the bug to paint pretty, festive flowers to ring in the fresh new season that spring is. Watching them work, dabbing here, brushing there was intriguing. They both allowed their brushes to flow without judgement, without uncertainty.
Caught in the moment these girls were in tune with nature and the beauty that unfolds.

Kindness

Nadia loves her cat Sherlock so much. She wants him to have all the comforts a cat could want so it’s no surprise that when she saw a stack of wood pieces on a table, she got an idea.

Since she is pretty hand with a glue gun her idea was a cinch to put together. Of course she wanted it to look, so she added a splash of color and some fabric for a comfy place to relax. After seeing her house I told her that her cat house idea would be a great 4H project to make for cats in shelters too.
I think she was proud of herself. She had done something nice for someone she loves. What a sweet girl.

Styrofoam Trays!
This is a great material for building, it’s so lightweight. These trays also make a fun canvas for any vision you have. Best of all, styrofoam floats, making it great for interactive water creations!

Weekly Wow

Nicole saw something special in the packing peanuts bin as she explored the studio during a birthday party. She felt inspired to get crafty. It wasn’t long before her idea came together when she found half an egg carton. She gathered bits and pieces to form little creatures, each one no taller than a peanut. She was so clever to use mini brads for beaks, grommets for eyes and  mesh from a vegetable bag for something soft to nestle down on.
When she was done I could almost hear them chirping away in their little clutch. What sweet little peeps they are.
