Anantya likes to make dolls. She has even made them at the studio before but never has she made one so small. Standing just under 6 inches when placed on a doll stand Anantya made to display her, she has style and flair.
With bits of fabrics that caught Anantya’s eye she worked with quiet ease to complete this stylishly contemporary character that would fare well on any runway , perfectly accessorized and ready to play.

Felt!
When Marni and her mom came into the studio the other day there was a plan in place. Marni wanted to make a cat. She didn’t know how or why but a cat it must be. After scouting her options it was decided that she would make a felt cat and drew out a plan to make it.
The whole kitty was simple, comprised of felt, pillow fluff, hot glue, a little collar and a drawn face. Felt can be a little hard for small hands to cut so there was some mommy assistance in the process . Marni was so pleased with her creation, she got inspired by some other crafters at the studio and wanted to make a mermaid too, so that we did together.
Felt is so fun to work with, no wonder it is a crafting core material.

Emmy was inspired by a sock. I watched her work as she gathered and cut, glued and placed, then glued and taped and placed and gathered some more until she had made a tabletop puppet show! What an impressive show. Think of all the smiles she’ll bring.

“It’s a stick figure” the young girl said. “I made one like this at school too”. Making use of the simple things that nature offers us is a fun idea.
The other day a gentleman came by and said his daughter told him about the studio and the kinds of things we use (which is just about everything). He said he had been trimming back his birch tree and had some branches in the back of his car, could we use them? Yes, they would most certainly go to good use around here! Fast forward to a Saturday afternoon at CReATE, with a birthday party in full swing and a flurry of creative energy flitting about. A party guest in the zone of inspiration spots the Natural Things bin and a small birch branch on top- presto! She made this happy stick figure in a flash.
I have heard it said that one thing leads to another, around here it most certainly does.

Painted rocks are a favorite at our house. They are like a little sprinkle of summer fun throughout the year. The rocks themselves are little natural canvases waiting to be expressed so we always have them at the studio, they are a great go-to crafty crowd pleaser.
A group of teens came to the studio the other day. I could tell there was a particularly crafty couple in the mix. All the kids sat painting, and creating with materials reserved for older crowds when there at the crafty couple table little rock monsters were coming to life. In that moment I felt the lovely high school girl was a kid again, paining rocks as my family has. For a moment, this activity seemed to surpassed time to bring about a timelessness air to a present moment. Magic.

Belle had a short time to create on a visit with her Grandma. She knew just what she wanted to make so they got busy with a quick rendition of the much beloved Elsa’s Castle from the movie Frozen.
All it took was a box, some cardboard, a scrap of paper and paint to get their scene set, then for the final touch Belle added tule and glittery faux snow to help make the castle look really frozen.
It’s a treat to watch a childs idea come to life a little imagination and some loving help from Grandma.

A gang of girls came to the studio yesterday as part of a birthday adventure for Chloe. They found the Material of the week bin stocked with IKEA frames right away and got busy makin’ art!
It was a flurry of activity as the clock ticked to closing and feathers and glitter went flying. The girls had a blast and now, a memento from part of their excellent adventure with Chloe.

Things are getting stylish around here…
On a quick whim this young lady of 12 fashioned a Gatsby worthy headband with a cluster of feathers and a few gatherings of leather twine all knotted up. She could have an ETSY shop!
I love it.

We are in the thick of school projects these days and boy are they looking great!

Beth and her mom came in with a project to make an imaginary bug with the characteristics that she had been learning bugs have in school. At first both mother and daughter were overwhelmed with all of the possibilities. It was fun to see their creation come together one page, one container, one hanger at a time and before we knew it they had created a super cool bug with multi faceted eyes made from CD’s and bottle caps!
