Well this sock unicorn takes the cake!
At the opener to one of our birthday parties yesterday, the birthday girl’s big sister crafted this fine creation from a less than fancy sock! I am told she is the crafty one in the house but WOW, she really caught the essence of magical kingdom-ness with just a few simple elements placed just the right way. Though she may be crafty, something tells me that she is simply tuned-in to her imagination. The sky is the limit when that is the case…

Saturday, September 12, 2015Nolan loves to play games but often finds that he can think of better elements than the games his family buys have so, this week he came into the studio on a mission to make his version of the game “Rubberneckers”. Turns out his version has been quite an endeavor to embark on as he cut, stamped and stickered challenge cards for all 50 US States! As I watched him work with his mom I could see that he has been up to this challenge! I love that CReATE can be a place where big ideas can be explored.
Nolan says that for me to play his game I would have to go along for a ride in the car. His version looks so fun, I may just try to invite myself along sometime.

Will Amanda be a furniture designer one day? I wonder…
She made a bed fit for a queen with it’s fancy silk bedspread and delicately yarn wrappers pillows. She even added a floral motif to the refined silhouettes of the head and foot boards. No doubt a barbie will feel well rested after a night sleeping here.
Imagination is a wondrous thing.
Sometimes the inspired triggers are obvious to me when I see creations unfolding, other times I wonder what started it all. In the end that doesn’t so much matter as that the opportunity to explore it was seized. Maybe the famous expression could have a partner saying, “Seize the inspiration” (it will fly away if we don’t catch it).

Friday, August 28, 2015Apparently Hannah is very creative says her aunt, so it’s no surprise that she would fashion a doll from packing peanuts! I was surprised though. It was so simple and yet so out of the box on how I had seen packing peanuts come together before, all gussied up with a hairdo! I love the power of imagination. Anything is possible!

I asked Piper, one of our Assistant Managers to Paint a chair we have at the studio. It is a cool dining chair that is meant to be covered with a slip cover so, in it’s uncovered state it is canvas! What artist doesn’t like a nice blank canvas? Piper took an opportunity to make her mark and took it home to bring it to life! I am enjoying the finished product, its fresh, it’s bold and commands a happy glance. We tend to think just about anything cam become art, especially a canvas chair. Thank you Piper!

Saturday, August 15, 2015Having two new birdies (Zebra Finches) at the studio has been prompting inspiration at the studio.
Ema enjoyed them so much she wanted her own birdie and cage to take home. She put a lot of detail into her creation to make it right, a swing for the birdie, food and water dishes (with real seed), a handle carrier for the cage and of course a happy little bird to love. It was fascinating to watch her process of creating this little treasure as she came to observe the real cage and birds several times to make hers just right.
Ah, the wonder of imagination. Now, she has her own pet bird.

Monday, August 10, 2015This wow is a bit of a throw back to a few weeks ago. I hosted an activity booth at the second session of Camp Conejo, an awesome Girl Scout Camp here in the Conejo Valley. The theme of the event was the 1970’s (my girlhood era) so I had the girls do yarn painting, one of those popular 70’s crafts. The girls were awesome, yarn painting was new to the but they embraced it whole heartedly. I chose just one picture here but, I could have chosen many more. This wow is more about the inspiration of using simple things to express what’s on your mind. It is just simple back to basics fun! Flower Camper Name unknown

Saturday, August 1, 2015Audrey love all things Minion so it’s no surprise that when she found a cute, small box. It had to be Minionized! She added her own twist though, and made her Minion orange. Imagination is great that way, the sky is the limit on possibilities.

Saturday, July 25, 2015Graham was inspired by the two new Finch birds we have a CReATE.
He made his own birds nest complete with two eggs (just like our Finch’s have). It is so awesome to see how inspiration works. There is a connective moment that lights up when one is open and creativity can wash through.
I am not sure Graham was even aware that it was happening as he turned a small stone into a red bird. He just went with it.

Saturday, July 18, 2015There is a saying I like; “The happiest people don’t have the best of everything, they make the best with everything they have” Unknown.
Ingrid knows this and by those means, she created these kitty cat toys for her furry friends at home. She wins the award for best use of bread closures on her cat rattle for sure, not to mention the zip-tie chain of fun!. What fun to create something to share, something that can bring joy to another. That is what creating does, it gives.
