Pretending…
Kacie (7) made this listening set from our weekly material, headphones along with a piece of leather twine and a casette tape. While wearing her creation and making other creations she said she was listening to pretend music.
Pretending, remember that? The times in childhood where possibilities were really probabilities because we could be anyone and do anything in the land of make believe. Creativity is a conduit for imagination and play and thought. Mixing a little mud and water made pies, and then you were a baker or the chef of a king. It was all possible with thought, but action (creating) made it so.
As we get older we don’t want to make believe but we do want to get away. That is why creativity, and in our case, artful creativity is so valuable. As Twyla Tharp once said, “Art is the only way to run away without leaving home”. Yes, it’s healthy to get away a little bit, from our to-do’s and to-don’ts. Being in creative make believe can sooth the soul and at the very least let you hear music you really like.
