Happy December!
Sunday, December 2, 2018We’re off to a great start with birthday celebrating and this sleek looking paper plate Wyvern Dragon. One plate cut just the right way makes this ancient creature and sparks resourcefulness in our creators.
We have a creative month in store for you with our Pinspired Project Night on the 7th, Parents Night Out on the 8th, Paint Pouring on the 14th, and our collaborative half day Artys Yoga Camp with @littlefoxyoga to name a few.
Let the creative reuse fun begin!
Curiosity lead me to creation
Monday, November 26, 2018As a girlĀ I spent a lot of time at my grandparents, Darling and Grandad’s house. My only-child status seemed to trigger my curious nature to explore their house. I was a looky-loo. I could spend hours going through the kitchen junk drawer and any other drawer looking to see what I would find. I was so curious. The more random and everyday the finds were, the better. Those times were magical for me. My grandparents kept all sorts of things that made every drawer feel like a keep sake box. I felt like I was going on little odysseys as I sorted and sifted through notes, jars, trays and the like.
Years later when I’d grown up and my grandparents had both passed away I found myself going through those magical drawers. I came away with a small bag of special treasures from the famed kitchen drawer that I saved for just the right occasion. When my girls were small we got an idea for an art project that the junk drawer bag would be perfect for. As we laid out the contents of the bag and thought of our Beach Birthday Party theme we had the loveliest time sharing in the curiousness of exploring my Darlings kitchen junk drawer things. Most of them made it onto our mixed media collaboration and touch my heart still as I look at the finished creation hanging on a wall at our home today. The things from her drawer that are still most wondrous to me are the handmade candle for her 21st birthday, the $2 bill and the bottom half of a heart shaped china box. They are nothing to look at per say but they carry curious wonderings about their origins and why she kept them for all those years. It’s funny to connect my childhood experiences as an explorer to the studio I have created that I now realize has a touch of her junk drawer magic available for all who create with our recycled this and that selection.
Creating the piece with my girls back in 2004 was a beautiful, presence filled experience. I want that kind of memory for you and the ones you love after you’ve spent time together at CReATE. Keep curiosity with you and I know you will.
Warmly,
Jemma

Bonding time.
Monday, September 17, 2018Nothing like getting the gang all together for a celebratory doodle-fest at Riley’s birthday party.
Art filled creativity was the top goal with all these kiddo’s.
I have shared pictures of kids coloring one of our jumbo coloring posters before and each time it’s because I am so taken in the moment of connection I see, be it to coloring itself or with the friends that surround one another.
Here it’s both the talking between friends while coloring and the presence they have to be in the creativity flow of this basic form of self expression while they talk about life.
Pour It On!

CReATE ON YOUR CAMPUS
Monday, September 10, 2018CReATE ON YOUR CAMPUS is our non-profit affiliate, an organization geared toward bringing self sustaining reuse habits and practices to school campuses for end use in creative ways through art and curriculum core avenues. We have been official since 2014 and slowly, organically blazing our trail onto school campuses. This year we are slated to be on five area campuses and we’re excited. The majority of our campuses utilize our program for art-at-lunch which means that students can use their free time at lunch to create and we think that is AWESOME! New ideas can take time to grow and we are ok with that as a board of six women who have other careers and families to raise too.
We believe in what we’re doing in helping schools reuse and we believe even more in the benefits reusing has for the students themselves. Over the years in this regard I have thought of the quote, “Give a man a fish and you’ll feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him forever. Lao Tzu
Reusing things is the right thing to do, it’s just and it’s kind. It is what we stand for and what we hope to share in the great Conejo Valley and far, far beyond.
Keep an eye on CReATE ON YOUR CAMPUS through the new C.O.Y.C. tab on the CReATE STUDIO home page that we’re developing to link the studio and the organization.
It’s School Project season!
Thursday, August 30, 2018Back to school projects are already in gear!
Will’s book report collage poster totally does the trick to convey what The Outsiders is about. I’ve got to read this book!
Make it move.
Sunday, August 26, 2018Working on a movable wall with Jake, one of the CReATE team who heads back to college tomorrow.
Best of luck and thanks to Jake and an extra big Thank You for inspiration on this wall (still in progress) to artist Alisa Burke who has shared her amazing wall pieces on her blog and shown me that I could create a more versatile studio space with walls that move!
The first time I saw one of her wall panels was a few years back. I thought it was such a clever idea and so simple too. I dreamt of a day when I could implement something like it to create versatility and better functionality in the studio. The day is here! Well, almost as the wall enters the tail end of it’s creation. We can use it to create more intimate space, more private feeling space or, we can put it away. It makes the studio an ongoing creation itself. I really like that. You know, that”s what we are too, ongoing. I love creating space, especially when the resources are limited. I am so happy to get to do that all the time. Moving space makes for a moving mind, that’s creativity in motion. Moveable, like our new wall.
