Weekly Wow!

A gang of girls came to the studio yesterday as part of a birthday adventure for Chloe. They found the Material of the week bin stocked with IKEA frames right away and got busy makin’ art!
It was a flurry of activity as the clock ticked to closing and feathers and glitter went flying. The girls had a blast and now, a memento from part of their excellent adventure with Chloe.

Things are getting stylish around here…
On a quick whim this young lady of 12 fashioned a Gatsby worthy headband with a cluster of feathers and a few gatherings of leather twine all knotted up. She could have an ETSY shop!
I love it.

DVD Sleeves.
These should be fun to work with, DVD covers from new and old favorites can become great 3D characters, cards or… you tell me..

Weekly Wow!

We are in the thick of school projects these days and boy are they looking great!

Beth and her mom came in with a project to make an imaginary bug with the characteristics that she had been learning bugs have in school. At first both mother and daughter were overwhelmed with all of the possibilities. It was fun to see their creation come together one page, one container, one hanger at a time and before we knew it they had created a super cool bug with multi faceted eyes made from CD’s and bottle caps!

Weekly Wow!

It’s true, you learn something new every day.
As Amanda was adding finishing touches to her Raccoon habitat I inquired about something she had built into the tops of her trees. She told me that Raccoons make their nests in trees to stay safe from predators. Wow, I never knew that.
That moment reminded me just how valuable school projects can be. There is a whole layer of applied learning that happens when kids take information they have researched and discovered and apply it to a physical display of what that learning taught them. Amanda is a great example of this process and clever to boot. Her paper towel role trees and glittery night sky helped me feel like I was nesting with raccoons.
