Rockin’

Kindness took off as CReATE STUDIO and Girls Club Strong helped launch the city of Agoura Hills new kindness in the  community rock painting campaign.
Keep an eye out for some of these fun rock creations as they hit the city this week.

You are creative.

Its a thinking muscle in Your brain…

While it may not be scientifically validated, I like analogies. I Think of creativity as a mental muscle we all have.

In my last post I mentioned creativity in play and based on necessity. Many of us don’t know we  excercise it everyday when we think about what to make for dinner or how were going to get the kids to each of their commitments at the same time. That’s the problem solving part, the necessity, the ying, but we need to exercise the yang too. The yang in our creative thinking is the playful side, the hands-on side, the get into the flow of it side. That’s what nurtures us. That’s where hobbies come into play.  So, back to my analogy, excersising creativity is excersising our thinking muscle, making it stronger and more flexible, which allows us to better apply the ying and the yang of our thinking muscle for a richer life quality.
Try today to take note of your creativity muscle and where you use it. It might just surprise you with a smile. You are creative.

Inspired…

Well, Reyes Adobe Days is a blast to be a part of and inspiration abounds at the historic Adobe site.

I have the pleasure of providing the art aspect of the event in the Gallery and share space to inspire others with the events Grand Marshall, Agoura Alum, Deena Kastor, Olympic Athelete and World Marathoner.

Cindy Williams of Girls Club Strong and I had the pleasure of spending creative time with Deena and felt truly inspired ourselves. She is wise, she is kind and she knows how to reach for the stars. What a great example for us all.

R.A.D.

We got off to a great start in the Gallery at Reyes Adobe Days last night where adults tapped into their kid-at- heart side with our Pinterest inspired projects, rustic sign making, creative spirit stick wrapping, macrame jar making and @AgouraHills Rocks rock painting.

Today a R.A.D. It’s all about kids and families with those activities and more! Come make a shredded paper pumpkin, a CD owl, a rustic sign or, CReATE your way with our D.I.Y. materials. Paper!

We love it and we LOVE to reuse it because it has so much reuse potential and, we LOVE trees.

I recently researched how much paper comes from one tree and an 2011 report said approximately 16 reams of paper come from one tree. I’m guessing it takes a lot of trees to make little paper so here’s an idea to reuse the missprinted papers, outdated calendars, emails, schedules and such. Turn them into scratch paper! We call it idea paper at CReATE. Cutting sheets of 8 1/2″ × 11″ paper into eighths makes great paper bits for your ideas and to-do’s. Try it!

Your Life Depends on it.

I originally shared this picture from our studio wall about a year ago in an instagram post that was sparked by this drawing.
I find it just as fitting now as it was then, to share it, again and then some.
“Create fun things, your life depends on it.” -Unknown
There’s a certain amount of truth to this statement. Books I have been inspired by like The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron,  Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert and Daring Greatly by Brene Brown would attest to the notion that we must create.
Our souls vitality needs this form of self expression. Our contribution to the world asks for us to be creative in solving problems and helping others. Yes, our lives depend on it. Today the world feels topsy turvy so it’s going to take our collective creativity to get things back on track. Our children will grow up and into some of the challenges we’re likely to leave behind. They’ll need creativity. This side of creativity is the necessity side, the practical side, the problem solving side so we have to exercise the fun side, the playful side, the curious side to help it grow. Love love, creativity grows when shared. So, we can create fun things like our lives depend on it. Let’s do it!

Paper…

As our spotlight on paper continues this month, we share an easy reuse craft that happens to be a perfect “Creating At Home” project to do.

We took a few cards an cut them in just a few snips into gift tags that are perfect for any gift you give.

You’ll need a greeting card or postcard that’s already seen it’s day.

You need a pair of scissors and a hole punch if you have one. You can also just tape a tag to a gift.

Take your card and cut it into a rectangle, square or other favorite shape making sure to cut out the part of the card you want to feature. For our cards we cutvtriangles then snipped little triangles off the corners to get a traditional tag shape them punched a hole near the top for use with string or ribbon.

So easy.

When your done you’ll have tags for any gifts you have to give. Start now, and you’ll be all set for your holiday and any other gift giving needs.
